​The Role 

I once played the role of 
a corpse 
I found myself in a closed coffin 
on a sorrow’s theatre, as
I started 
ageing alone until I found myself 
in Baghdad in a friendly 
grave.

Death Ashes 

From the bottom of 
peace
I believe that I do not have a 
place 
To relieve in my private space 

Numerous conflicts and 
spite
The day has turned into night
With dead bodies left
and right

Children Of The Sun

We are the children of 
the sun 
We have eyes filled up 
with barriers 
We have mouths locked 
with bolts 
We sure sentenced ourselves 
to death 

We wrap our dreams and 
burn out
We unwrap our griefs 
and share it with others
“No, Thank You” then we 
proceed to bleed
From the sharp knives
from the painful bullets

We write letters to 
nations of freedom and 
peace
But the soldiers of our 
apprehension don't send 
them
We were once lovers, 
but today we are identified as 
Loners, waiting for 
another meaningless revolution 

We are the forbidden 
children from laughing or 
sobbing
We are born in cities of sorrows, 
we suffer from growing up 
The wars we witnessed taught us how to love a 
woman,
how to farewell the child in her womb, before he 
earns a casket.

​Bio:​
Ahmad Al-Khatat, was born in Baghdad, Iraq on May 8th. He has been published in several press publications and anthologies all over the world and has poems translated in several languages. He has published two poetry books “The Bleeding Heart Poet” and “Love On The War’s Frontline” which are available on Amazon.
