Garden Plans: 2019

Spring is on its way- finally! Its a little too early for us at Sacred Chickens to start our gardening for this year, so were going to share what we plan to do in a couple of months. Happy reading and gardening!

I’m in a condo right now with a tiny patio, but I’m looking for a house.  I suppose the first part of my garden plan will be finding a garden.  Until then, I intend to give unwanted advice to my children (that includes you Jarad) and have some heartfelt conversations with my all my friends’ plants.
Essie’s house, for instance, needs some foundation plants.  I’m planning a Lady Banks yellow rose in the center of the wall with some blue-ish hydrangeas and some pink azaleas out front.  The house is a white, cottage-style, so I think colors from a children’s story will work out well.  Evangeline is thinking of getting a deck, so we’ll need to figure out what to do with her hydrangeas and think of some acid loving plants that will do with a little shade to plant around it.  I think I’ll push a few more herbs and some roses on Jarad.  And my friend Kathy says some of her plants need a good talking to.  I’ll be happy to get around to the rest of you too.  Just send me a request.

I caught a bit of gardening fever last summer, and it's only intensified over the winter,  so this may be a bit long. Spring break is coming up early this semester, and during that week I'm going to put up four raised beds, where I'll grow corn, sweet potatoes, pole beans, lettuce, watermelons and cantaloupe. I also have a little patio in the backyard, and I'd like to attach some lattice work to the framework and plant it with jasmine vines, to make it a little more secluded and shaded so I can read there. Near the patio, there's a little latticework fence around our propane tank, and I'd like to plant some clematis there and let it take over. Furthermore,  I have constructed some more lattice work on the sides of our carport, where I'll plant some cypress vine seeds. I'll also be planting some herbs and other seeds along the walkway in front of the house( I've actually just bought something called rose mint to go there). Finally, I'll be constructing a little raised bed around the mailbox, which will be for assorted annuals. That's about all that I'll be doing in the ground, but I do have several more seed packets that will go in assorted pots, and I;m sure there will more impulse plant buys in the coming months!

I’m planning a nice poison garden this year. The daffodils have already been placed.  I’ll start small this year with foxgloves, Brugmansia, elephant ears and my favorite, wormwood. I have no plans to poison anyone, the living are in shape to bother me, but there’s a certain deadly beauty to dangerous plants that attracts me.  I’ll keep the gate closed, but you can visit me any time.  Look for the spider shaped gate.
